Cost-effectiveness Analysis of Public Health of Mental Programs in Korea

Abstract
|
|
|
The aim of this study sets out to discover a desirable form of public health of mental programs among the alternative ones. Especially, this study attempts ; (ⅰ) to investigate the factors that affect the performance of public health of mental programs ; (ⅱ) carry out cost-effectiveness analysis (CEA) for the various type of public health of mental programs ; (ⅲ) identify innovative strategies for efficiency of public health of mental programs. Cost-effectiveness analysis is used to compare the performance of all the public health of mental hospital programs.
Measure of cost is used to health programs cost from 1992 to 2001. The index of effectiveness is used to adjusted bed turnover rounds and adjusted patient days per specialist of all the mental hospital programs from 1992 to 200l.
As a result of these analyses, policy options as follows are recommended ; (ⅰ) public mental hospital programs should be enough to provide health services adequately as open system ; (ⅱ) facilities and equipments of public mental hospital programs should be provided sufficiently. (ⅲ) the efficiency of mental hospital programs should be raised by active management for containment of hospital expenditure, economics of scale, change rate of mental inpatient.
Ultimately mental hospital programs in public sector are to be fostered for the promotion of health care by enhancing the equity and efficiency of health services.
